Model Years: 1967 - 1976

Lock Locations: ALL

Model Types: Bavaria 3.0, 3.0CS, 2500, 2800

Key /Lock Specifications:

Dimple type keys

Key Codes (XX) 0001-1100

(XX = Two letters example: BA,BB,CA,DB,EB,EC,FC,FE,GC,HD,ID)

GENERAL:

3 depths, 7 spaces, Master

3 depths, 6 spaces, Valet

 

IGNITION:

Types:

Euro, 1 key pull, short

Euro, 2 key pull, short (2800)

US, 1 key pull

Note: cannot interchange between US and European ignitions

Problems:

Electrical, take to the dealer or specialist.

US: Buzzer rocker arm will break, can be replaced or repaired,

key will turn and car will not start

Wear:

US: Where 'D' shaped hole and post meet can wear out lock will turn and car will not start

Won't start:

Switch breaks - assembly self-destructs (visual inspection only)

Bakelite separates from casting

So dirty it won't operate properly, clean and replace tumblers

Euro: Core popping out on Euro models

Euro: Tailpiece worn out on locking dog- it's peened over

Euro: Face of plastic cover: HALT, FAHRT, START

TRUNK:

2800 European - mounted in frame not deck lid

2800 US - mounted in deck lid not frame

Trunk locks not interchangeable

Code visible on lock washer - preferred code

Problems:

Foot falls off

Foot can be locked behind latch

Dust shutter break in open position

Factory lubricant will freeze tumblers

!! NOT recommended to pry

GLOVE:

Mounted in dashboard (removal not recommended - veneer on dash)

Codes on lock

Lock contains only 3-4 tumblers

Glove lock appeared on only 10% of all autos made
